Food & Nutrition Services

We are a department within the Boise School District, providing meals and nutrition education services to the students and faculty of our District.

  • We provide over 22,000 meals every school day at 48 sites totaling over 3.6 million meals each year!  We have six  Registered Dietitians who provide their expertise in food service management and nutrition.
  • Our goal is to provide highly nutritious, student friendly, and economical meals.

  • Our services include the following programs:
    • National School Lunch and Breakfast
    • After School Snack
    • Pre-School Snack
    • Summer Foods
    • Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Program
    • Farm to School Program
  • We have twelve schools currently participating in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program. This program is funded through a USDA grant and allows us to offer a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables in the classroom. As part of this service, nutrition education is also provided and may include handouts, activities, and videos.
  • Boise School District was selected as one of five Farm to School Pilot Districts in Idaho for the 2010-2011 school year and we will continue the program again this year! Farm to School is an effort to connect and support healthy local food and agriculture with schools and students.
  • In accordance with Federal regulation, meals are available for free and reduced rates to families who apply and qualify. Applications are available on-line.If requested, Free and Reduced Applications are available in other languages. Please contact our office at 854-4090 to make a request.
